- Just a few notes for the morning
-
Walking in 45 mph wind gusts is kind of a pain in the ass... At least it wasn't raining. But contending with the blowing leaves and the branches that were literally dropping out of the trees right in front of me were a little scary. It's days like this that I can certainly see why Stephenie Meyer picked my part of the country to set Twilight. The wind also means that Aslan is tearing around the house running from one window to the other back and forth like a little tard.
I'd also like to state that why the Live Journal Writer's Block didn't have anything to do with Veteran's Day is beyond me...
Which reminds me - Thank you to any of the Veterans that are on my friend's list. If there are none, well, then pass along my thanks to the Veterans in your life. Without you guys (and gals) we wouldn't enjoy the life and freedom that we do today.
Ok, now what I started this post out for in the first place...
Today is Matt and I's four month anniversary. Four months of the most perfect time of my life. It's amazing that a person could go twenty six years and never truly know what happiness was. I know that if I am this happy now, when we can be together forever and not have to part, will be an indescribable feeling. I love him so much. I love him in a way that I never thought I could love someone. I knew that I would fall in love someday and I even thought that I had been in love. But until I met Matt and had him in my life, I had no idea what it could truly be like. He is the best thing that has ever happened to me and my life is so different in so many wonderful ways since I met him.

"why the Live Journal Writer's Block didn't have anything to do with Veteran's Day is beyond me..."
Well perhaps because glorifying American soldiers is pretty much a sore point/insulting for all live journal users but the Americans? And isn't Russia an integral part of LJ now? They will be about as happy celebrating US veterans day as the other way around.
Just ya know FYI...

It's not only the United State's Veteran's Day, it's also Canada's Remembrance Day which honors Canadian veteran's as well as being Armistice Day for them.
Also, just a few day's they posted a Writer's Block topic regarding the Russian Revolution, so I don't think that some mention of Veteran's Day would be out of place.
I don't think it would be out of place to make some mention of it, regardless.
And I hardly think that celebrating our American soldiers is hardly insulting all Live Journal users but Americans. Some, I'm sure, but not "all" by any means.

The Russian Revolution was a long time ago. Possibly considered an improvement where human rights are concerned.
Now the American army's popularity when it comes to human rights is well, nearly non existent after the stunts they pulled lately and keep pulling. It would be like celebrating the Chinese government...though they are actually improving.
While the war propaganda machine has worked hard and in many cases is still working hard within the US the outside view of it is more along the lines of remembering that 90% of the casualties were civilians and the war had no just cause and all that jazz. So it's very understandable that they would be avoiding celebrating anything to do with American soldiers as they are seen as a shameful subject.
Someone might be brave but when what he is doing is seen as killing civilians in an illegal war the bigger point is the last one.
LJ is roaming a bigger place than just the American continent.

I'm quite aware that Live Journal is not just an American website, as obviously the group of people from around the world on my flist proves.
I don't think that just because the Russian Revolution was "a long time ago" gives it any more reason to be celebrated.
And I'm not asking, and I don't think many people are, to be celebrating the war, or civilian casualties, but I'm pointing out, that not only in America, but also in Canada and England, this day has been set aside to honor those men and women who felt the need to serve and protect their country.
Even if you don't agree with what is happening in the world now, Veteran's/Remembrance Day is not just honoring the people serving today, it's also honoring those people from all previous wars. And whether you think war is wrong or right, I believe that serving one's country is an admirable thing, no matter what country you live in.

It may be an admirable thing but when it is used as part of the false war propaganda it gets tainted. Celebrate doctors, firemen, police officers but at this time do not elevate the status of American soldiers to that of lets say the WW2 veterans.
At a time people are fighting for the wrong reasons there should not be a global celebration of those very soldiers, not even when their grandfathers did fight justly and honorably.

I don't think that you can say "Let's celebrate these veteran's, but not these." Its ridiculous.
You can celebrate veterans but not at this time because the celebration would be for the wrong ones. At this moment something is going on that should be corrected, atoned for and forgotten. Celebrating now, is glorifying the current war. Who will be thinking about past wars?
When the shame is forgotten then you can recall the good things, like some of the veterans who didn't know what they were getting into and really thought they were defending their country from the Irakees and terrorist threats.

Every nation at some point has been a terrorist to another country. There has never always been a "just" for every war.
You can think of our country what you wish, but you cannot judge every American by the perceived views that you have not living in this country.
You can think what you will about our country, and that is your right, but I don't agree with judging our entire military based on what the government has chosen.
The people serving now, yes, some of them didn't know what they were getting into. I refuse to agree that Veteran's day, and celebrating it is glorifying the current war.
I, as an American didn't choose to go to war, but my father who was in the United States Marine Corps fifteen years ago is a Veteran, and just because of the current war does not mean that I'm not going to honor him.

And you can, but don't expect the rest of the world to subscribe to Veteran's Day. It's only positive in your own country.
That was what your question was about, why the whole of LJ wasn't interested in your Veteran's Day. The answer is obvious to anyone who isn't an American.
And as for "just wars" they are few and far between but we have stopped trying to believe in the causes while others are still going strong. I refuse to respect the charade and if that automatically means disrespecting the puppets so be it.
I hope one day there will be a much higher threshold for committing war, maybe then a soldier can be a respectable profession again. And yes that goes for ALL countries not just the US.

Veteran's Day is only positive in America because it's an American holiday. I think holiday and celebration are the wrong words, but I can't think of much better ones right now, memorial day I suppose.
Other countries remember past wars and soldiers who've died today, so I was surprised too that nothing was mentioned. Yes it's not a completely American site, but it seems to have a majority, especially with the people who ask writer's block questions.
Remberance days aren't about respecting the wars, they're about remembering the soldiers who have fought and died in them.
So no, the answer is not obvious to anyone who isn't an American.

Really, that's the main point that I was trying to make all along.

"A majority" indeed, and a majority of people who ask bloody stupid, pointless questions.
"Remberance days aren't about respecting the wars, they're about remembering the soldiers who have fought and died in them." Says it all, though.

Well there ya go, just another reason that at least something should have been mentioned...
I'm American (obviously) so of course "Veteran's Day" is going to be the phrase I use...

Only problem for me that it has already been ther 12th Nov for about 9 hours..... :P
I guess they were just trying to avoid politics.

That's like Matt and I's anniversary. We count it from the first day that we told each other we loved one another. It was the 11th for me and the 12th for him! So then what day do we celebrate on!? lol

Well, we (meaning I) decided that the 11th would be ideal. That makes our anniversary 7/11 (Or 11/7 for the others). It is only significant to me because we have 7-11 Convenience stores and it makes it even easier to remember, lol
it would be 11-7 here too! i always get confused when reading US dates!!!!
But i can see how having it as 7-11 would be easier to remember!

Totally off topic, but Hugh Jackman brought Tim Tams to everyone in the audience at the Oprah show yesterday! I thought of you!
How Australian of him!!!
He must be a gentleman if he's sharing Tim Tams

Ah, also, it is England's Armistice/Remembrance Day as well.
So perhaps they didn't have to specifically refer to "American Veteran's Day" but they could have at least made reference to some sort of Remembrance for people in all countries.
